ஆதித்யஜோத் ஃபவுண்டேசன் ஃபார் ட்விங்க்லிங் லிட்டில் ஐஸ் (ADITYA JYOT FOUNDATION FOR TWINKLING LITTLE EYES) சார்பில் 4 வது ஆதித்யா ஜோத் டாக்டர் ஏ.பி.ஜே. அப்துல் கலாம் பொது மக்கள் பங்கேற்பு விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சி 2020 அக்டோபர் 22 அன்று மாலை 6 மணியளவில் (IST) நடைபெறுகிறது என்பதை அறிவிப்பதில் பெருமிதம் கொள்கிறோம்.

இந்த நிகழ்வு முதல் முறையாக நடத்தப்பட உள்ளது. ரெட்டினோபதி ஆஃப் பிரிமேச்சுரிட்டி (ஆர்ஓபி) கொண்ட குழந்தைகளை பரிசோதனை செய்வதற்கும் சிகிச்சையளிப்பதற்கும் செயற்கை நுண்ணறிவைப் பயன்படுத்துவதில் பெரிதும் பங்களித்த டாக்டர் மைக்கேல் எஃப் சியாங் இந்த ஆண்டு மதிப்புமிக்க உரையினை வழங்குவார்.

ROP குறைமாதத்தில் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளின் விழித்திரையின் செயலிழப்பு ஆகும். இது குறைமாதத்தில் பிறந்த குழந்தையின் முதிர்ச்சியற்ற இரத்த நாளங்களை பாதிக்கிறது. மூளைக்கு அனுப்பப்படும் காட்சி செய்திகளுக்கு ஒளியை மாற்றுவது விழித்திரை பொறுப்பு. ROP கடுமையானதாக இருந்தால் ஒன்று அல்லது இரண்டு கண்களிலும் விழித்திரையை இழுக்கவோ அல்லது பிரிக்கவோ முடியும். குறைவான பிறப்பு எடை மற்றும் முன்கூட்டிய குழந்தைகளில் ROP இன் நிகழ்வு இந்தியாவில் 20-50% வரை இருக்கும் என்று பல ஆய்வுகள் குறிப்பிடுகின்றன,

இது வேறுவிதமாகக் கூறினால், முன்கூட்டியே பிறந்த 2 குழந்தைகளில் 1 குழந்தைகளுக்கு இந்த நிலை ஏற்படலாம். உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள ஆய்வுகள் 30% ஆக உள்ளன. இதுபோன்ற 5 குழந்தைகளில் 1 குழந்தைகளுக்கு இந்த நோயின் கடுமையான வடிவம் இருப்பதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது, இது இந்த குழந்தைகளின் வாழ்க்கைத் தரத்தில் கடுமையான நீண்டகால தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது.

இதற்கு முன்னர் பல்வேறு திரையிடல் திட்டங்கள் மூலம், ROP இன் முன்னேற்றம் மற்றும் சிக்கல்களைத் தடுக்கலாம். வழிகாட்டுதல்களின்படி, நாங்கள் ஸ்கிரீனிங் திட்டங்களை நடத்துகிறோம்

முன்கூட்டியே பிறந்த குழந்தைகள் (34 வாரங்கள் அல்லது அதற்கும் குறைவாக பிறந்தவர்கள்),

குறைந்த பிறப்பு எடையுடன் (பிறக்கும்போது 2000 கிராமுக்கு குறைவாக) அல்லது

34 வாரங்களுக்குப் பிறகு பிறந்த குழந்தைகள் நீண்ட காலமாக மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்படுவது மற்றும் ஆக்ஸிஜன், இரத்தமாற்றம் போன்றவை தேவைப்படும் அதிக ஆபத்து காரணிகளுடன்.

ஒரு நிபுணர் மற்றும் அனுபவம் வாய்ந்த விழித்திரை நிபுணர் இந்த புதிதாகப் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளை 2-4 வாரங்களில் நீடித்த விழித்திரை பரிசோதனை செய்வது மிகவும் அவசியமாகிறது.

இந்த புதிதாகப் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளின் எதிர்காலம் வெளிச்சம் நிறைந்ததாக இருக்க விழித்திரை நிலையை மாற்றியமைக்கும் இந்த வாழ்க்கையைப் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வையும் பரப்ப நாம் ஒன்றிணைவோம்!

Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling little eyes is proud to announce that we are holding 'The 4th Aditya Jyot Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Public Endowment Oration’ on 22nd of October 2020. The ceremony is going to be held virtually for the very first time. Dr Michael F Chiang who has contributed greatly to the application of artificial intelligence for screening and treatment of babies with Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) will be presented with the prestigious award this year.

ROP is a potentially blinding condition of the retina that affects the immature blood vessels in a premature newborn. The retina is responsible for converting light to visual messages that is in turn sent to the brain. ROP if severe can result in pulling away or detachment of the retina in one or both eyes. Several studies indicate that the incidence of ROP in low birth weight and premature babies ranges from 20-50% in India, this in other words means that upto 1 out of 2 babies born prematurely can have this condition. The incidence in studies around the globe stands at around 30%. Approximately 1 in 5 such babies are said to have severe form of this disease which has a grave long term impact on the quality of life of these children.

If caught earlier on, through various screening programs, the progress and complications of RoP can be prevented. According to the guidelines, we conduct screening programs for children born prematurely (born at 34 weeks or less),

with low birth weight(less than 2000g at birth) or babies born after 34 weeks with high risk factors requiring prolonged hospitalization and oxygen support, blood transfusions, etc.

It becomes extremely necessary for an expert and experienced retina specialist to do a dilated retinal examination of these newborns at 2-4 weeks of life.
